Now there’s no point having all these wonderful, beautiful, planning resources if you don’t have some sort of system in place to plan your life to perfection. I’m sure you’ve heard of the term ‘domestic goddess’ right? Well I’d rather call myself an organisation goddess!
I think being organised is super important. But it’s also just as important to be productive. You can be beautifully organised and still not get stuff done. Being organised isn’t just about having a super tidy desk and lots of fab stationery. Being organised is about being productive and getting stuff done. It doesn’t have to take hours of your time either. A planning system like mine is easy to set up and takes a 20 minutes once a week plus a few minutes each day to become awesomely organised.
How to be an organisation goddess
Write all appointments, birthdays, reminders etc on your month planner. When something new crops up, put it on the month planner immediately. If you’d rather use your mobile phone calendar, that’s fine, just make sure you have somewhere to record future events.
Decide on your goals for the month and fill them in on the goal planner. For each goal think of a few action steps that will help you achieve each specific goal.
On your habit tracker, list any habits you want to work on this month. These can be some of the action steps from your goal planner. For example one of my goals is to practice mindfulness so my action steps include reading my affirmations and writing my gratitude list every day so these go on my habit tracker and I tick them off when I’ve done them every day.
Pick a day when you’ve got 20 minutes spare to plan your week. I sit down with my planner every Sunday evening to plan out my week.
On your weekly planner write all family appointments, reminders, birthdays etc. These should already be noted on your month planner or phone calendar. I also add things like my laundry days and grocery shopping day.
Make a to-do list. This might include all the little things you need to remember like buying a birthday present, paying a bill or making a phone call.
Take a look at your goal planner and ask yourself “What do I need to do this week to accomplish my goals?” Then write down 1-3 goals for the coming week. Anything that you need to do to accomplish these goals, add to your to-do list.
Meal planning is next. I would suggest having a master list of all the meals that you make then it’s just a case of selecting your meals for the week from your master list. It’s up to you whether you list breakfast and lunch but I just plan our dinners. When you’ve decided on your meals for the week, write all the ingredients you need plus your weekly essentials on your grocery shopping list.
At the end of each day take 5 minutes to tick off all completed tasks.
Check your to-do list and write any tasks for tomorrow on that day of your weekly planner
On your habit tracker fill in the box for that day to show you’ve completed each thing
If you’ve run out of any groceries that day, add it to your shopping list.
So that’s my planning system in a nutshell. Since I’ve been using it I’ve become so much more organised and productive. In other words I don’t forget things and I get more stuff done.
