Want something pretty to decorate your walls with this Christmas season? How about this Christmas printable wall art to bring some sparkle to your home?
How are you feeling about Christmas? Excited and delighted? Or overwhelmed and stressed? In the past I’ve found December to be a super stressful month. There’s so much to prepare, buy, decorate, organise, wrap and post.
What shall I wear to the Christmas party? How am I going to fit everyone around my dining table? Why is the toy my daughter wants out of stock everywhere?
I know that a lot of us end up feeling overwhelmed in the run up to Christmas. I partially blame the media! All those ad’s on TV showing the perfect family, sitting down to a perfect Christmas dinner, giving perfect gifts to each other in their perfectly decorated homes. So we put pressure on ourselves to make our Christmas look just as perfect. But we end up feeling overwhelmed, frazzled and inadequate. My question is: Is it really worth it? Christmas is essentially just one day.
It doesn’t have to be the season of stress. It can actually be the season of calm. This year I’ve decided to leave the stress behind. I choose to find the fun in Christmas and to truly enjoy the season of joy. There are a couple of things that I’m going to focus on to make sure this December is stress-free. Here they are.
1 // Simplify. Don’t say yes to everything and fill your December with obligations, events and to-do lists. If you’re asked to attend an event don’t immediately say yes. Go with your gut feeling. If your initial thought is that you don’t fancy it, graciously say no.
Leave yourself some breathing space. Leave yourself time for self-care. Cosy up with your partner or children under a big fluffy blanket and watch some Christmas movies with a comforting hot chocolate instead.
2 // Don’t compare yourself to others. Remember that what you see isn’t all real. Those perfect families on the ad’s are actors on a film set. Those perfect families on social media are only showing you a tiny well edited snippet of their life. Be happy with your perfectly imperfect life. Do what you want and don’t give a &*%$ what others are doing or what they’ll think of you.
Calm and joy are just a decision away. It’s as simple as that. If you find this time of year overwhelming, make the decision to find the joy this Christmas.
